New Year, a time for new beginnings, a fresh start, a time to start over and reaffirm commitments to your goals... or so they say.

The truth is, most people make New Year's resolutions, they have big plans for the year ahead...

They say they will lose weight, get in shape, quit smoking/drinking, sort out their finances once and for all, or - just insert any other random 'wish' you can think of.

Most will fail.

In fact, a study by Strava following over 98 million activities found that most people don't get past 19th January, which they coined 'quitter's day', and 91% of people will eventually throw in the towel and not stick to their resolutions.

Why?

Piss poor planning and a lack of commitment.

Consider this - if you have a goal that you feel is so important and could make a massive benefit to your life, why would you even wait until New Year to start it? It makes no sense.

Just get on with it - whether it is January, March or October, it makes no difference.

The simple fact that you are willing to put something off until New Year, AKA later, means that you aren't committed to making the change.

If you want to find your version of success, you need to identify what it is you want to improve at or change, set your goals and systematically go about achieving them.

Sitting on the fence until New Year is not going to help you. The only thing it will help you do is waste your life.

That being said, we are here now, so we might as well make the most of it, right?

My recommendation for you is to take some time out - grab your journal and reflect on last year. 

What went well, what didn't go so well? Where could you have improved? What skills were you lacking? How are your finances - do you need to adjust your spending? Do you need to work on any relationships? How about your career?.... 

Whatever it is, think about the different aspects of your life and where you can improve, then you can start putting together an action plan for the year to achieve success and make this year count.

As the late Jim Rohn used to say, "You shouldn't start the year until you have it finished".

So get planning.

Set goals that mean something, that are going to make a difference - then stick to them!

One of the key traits of successful people is persistence - the ability to stick to their goals no matter what, no matter if things get tough, or you don't see the results you want, or people say it's pointless. 

Don't do something to see if it works, do it UNTIL it works.

Know what YOU want and go after it relentlessly until it's yours.
